Catherine Sollman is a printmaker and teaching artist who has always lived somewhere along Lake Michigan. Her practice consists of small-scale works on paper that emphasize geometry and color play. Her preferred methods are monotype and relief.
She is currently working on small, colorful gouache paintings and larger corresponding woodblock prints. Using only basic shapes to build abstract forms that hint at person or place, she plays with structure, transparency, and illusion. In this body of work, she attempts to minimize evidence of the free hand while suggesting humanity and humor.
